Debbie Caudle - Principal

Debbie CaudleWe are pleased to welcome back Debbie Caudle starting her second year as principal of Westview Elementary School. Mrs. Caudle was assistant principal at Westview since 2016 and worked with parents to form a chess club at the school.  Caudle worked closely with teachers to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.  Before moving into administration, she was a third and fourth-grade teacher at Wallace A. Smith Elementary.  She wrote and was awarded a technology grant to begin a news team at Smith for students to deliver the daily announcements in a news format.  Caudle started The Blue Knights chess club at Smith and was one of two teachers from Hamilton County Schools at a round-table discussion with Governor Bill Haslam.  She also taught at Woodmore Elementary in Hamilton County, as well as at Polk County Schools in Lakeland, Florida; and Dallas Independent School District in Dallas, Texas.  Caudle holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, and a master’s from Nova Southeastern University.

Melissa Coffelt - Assistant Principal

Melissa CoffeltWe are also excited to welcome back our Assistant Principal, Melissa Coffelt. Ms. Coffelt began her teaching career in 2001 at East Brainerd Elementary.  During her time at East Brainerd she taught kindergarten, second, third and fourth grades. Melissa was a fourth grade model classroom teacher at East Ridge Elementary, taught first and second grades at Snow Hill Elementary and kindergarten at Rivermont Elementary.  Ms. Coffelt has worked as a literacy coach for Hamilton County, coaching at Dupont, Hillcrest, Big Ridge, Daisy and Clifton Hills.  She has served as a literacy mentor for Snow Hill and Orchard Knob Elementary kindergarten teachers as well as leading numerous district professional development sessions.  Ms. Coffelt was a member of Leadership Fellows Cohort 9.  As a 2017 recipient of a Unum Strong Schools Grant, she started a student etiquette and public communication club for fifth grade students at Clifton Hills called Bow Ties and Pearls that taught students proper dining etiquette, manners and appropriate conversation and communication skills.  We are excited that Ms. Coffelt will be joining our Westview community!
